Apostolos Tsoukas
The furrier Apostolos (Akis) Tsoukas is the president of Kastorian Fur Association “The Prophet Elias”. He is also the new president of the Hellenic Fur Federation.
A well-known entrepreneur in the region, Mr. Tsoukas runs one of the few fully vertically integrated fur-making businesses, making it a leading brand in the international fur market for decades now.
His long career in all phases of the fur sector allows him to know better than most the issues faced by furriers and fur farmers.
He became better known in 2019 when he became president of Kastorian Fur Association “The Prophet Elias”, a position that enabled him to contribute decisively to solving longstanding issues in the fur sector. Among these are: the problem of tax representatives, extending the time period for re-exportation of hides as part of the inward processing (IP) regime, eliminating the luxury tax on furs, making all the necessary interventions for issuing a new framework for alternative forms of tax audits, modifying the new investment law for accelerating subsidy payments for fur businesses. In addition, with a series of requests and keeping in constant contact with the relevant ministries as President of the Hellenic Fur Federation, Mr. Tsoukas managed to get support measures for the fur export sector during the Covid-19 pandemic and during the period when the EU imposed sanctions on Russia, which is the main fur market.
As part of his multi-faceted work, worth mentioning are his winning of the Exhibition Market Award for the organization of the 44th Kastoria International Fur Fair, the inclusion of the Kastorian Fur Association in the National Coalition for Digital Skills and Jobs, his charity work for Make a Wish Hellas, the Ark of the World and the Kastoria Metropolitan church, the organization of special educational activities in collaboration with FurMark, the preparation of the Contemporary Museum of the Art of Fur-making, the organization of a fur-buying mission from South Korea and the participation in the International Sustainable Fur Forum with actions concerning the sustainability of the fur sector.
At particularly trying times for everyone, Akis Tsoukas took the reins of the Hellenic Fur Federation in 2021 with the support of the furriers and fur-farmers of Kastoria, Siatista and Argos Orestikou. The new president advocates the unity of the sector and has responsibly undertaken the task of leading the region’s main business to a much needed and desired turnaround.
In his first statements, Mr. Tsoukas promises to do what he knows best: “Work, work, work!”
